5th Annual African American History Education Conference: Untold Stories of Jim Capers
February 12 – 14, 2026
The 5th Annual African American History Education Conference will be a jam-packed three days, kicking off on Thursday, February 12, with a choice of eight historical tours. Friday, February 13, and Saturday, February 14 are teaching and learning days at Robert Smalls Leadership Academy, featuring Community Connections, Student Performances, and culminating performances of Jim Capers by the Gullah Kin Folks traveling theatre.
Again this year, our keynote speakers are locally and nationally-known authors, artists, educators, clergy, historians, and entertainers who have deep and personal connections to this community. Their knowledge of Beaufort’s untold stories will leave you energized, inspired, and motivated to engage in meaningful dialogues resulting from this collaboration.
